Planning Board approves hazardous-materials permit for town municipal complex.

Planning Board · Meeting of March 25, 2026

Mansfield Planning Board greenlights municipal complex hazmat permit and retail use modification. The board voted 6-0 to grant a special permit allowing the Town of Mansfield to switch from vegetable oil to standard weight hydraulic oil at its public safety building on East and Maple Streets, with existing safeguards including secondary containment and spill protocols already in place. In a separate 7-0 vote, the board approved a special permit modification for National Lumber to consolidate retail operations at 71 Maple Street, though public comment raised a decades-old potential encroachment of parking and rail spur onto town conservation land, which the board conditioned on resolution between the Conservation Commission and applicant.

The board also voted 6-1 to recommend adoption of a data center zoning bylaw that defines and regulates data centers as distinct uses, prohibits large-scale facilities above 2 megawatts, and allows only small Tier 1 facilities under 2 megawatts by special permit.
