Select Board opts out of vote by mail for local election
Select Board · Meeting of March 4, 2026
Mansfield Select Board votes to opt out of vote-by-mail for May 12 local election. Town Clerk Jennifer Davis requested the opt-out citing costs of $5,000 to $7,000 with no state reimbursement, describing the process as labor-intensive with typically low voter turnout. The board voted 4-0 to reject mail voting while maintaining early voting and absentee ballot options.
Board member Kostas Loukas noted the cost but acknowledged residents enrolled in state-level mail voting may expect local ballots by mail. The board has opted out every time since 2020, and Davis reported no complaints from prior years' opt-outs.
