Planning Board reorganizes; New England F.C. soccer complex hearing continued to June 24

Planning Board · Meeting of May 27, 2026

Mansfield Planning Board continues New England F.C. soccer complex hearing pending traffic study and landscaping plan. The proposed synthetic turf facility at 283 Gilbert Street in the Residential 1 zone, which includes two full-sized and one half-sized fields, 253 parking spaces, and field lighting, drew significant public concern over traffic volume on Gilbert Street, stormwater management, and potential PFAS contamination from synthetic turf infill. Applicant representatives cited an estimated 1.18 million dollars in total local economic impact and seasonal use concentrated in spring and fall with most activity occurring between 4:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.

The board voted 6-0 on May 27 to continue the hearing to June 24, 2026, requiring the applicant to submit a comprehensive traffic study and a landscape architect-stamped landscaping plan before proceeding. In separate votes, the Planning Board reorganized, electing Ryan Maxwell as Clerk and retaining Michael McClanahan as Chair, and approved a 24-foot opening for relocation of scenic rocks at 88 Williams Street for driveway safety improvements.
