Finance Committee Reaffirms Override Recommendation Amid School Budget Crisis
Finance Committee · Meeting of March 19, 2026
MANSFIELD — Finance Committee hears warnings of $2.4M potential school cuts without override. Superintendent Dr. Michelle McKeon and Director Matthew Violette presented Mansfield Public Schools' preliminary FY27 budget of $62.9 million, with a $3.8 million deficit from a 6.3 percent health insurance premium increase.
Under a Tri-Board agreement, schools assume 63 percent of the town-wide deficit; without override funding, schools would face approximately $2.4 million in reductions. The committee also heard departmental presentations from MIS, Council on Aging, Public Health, and Conservation, with the Select Board required to vote by April 1 to place an override on the ballot.
