School Committee attends tri-board budget session on override versus debt exclusion.

School Committee · Meeting of February 26, 2026

Mansfield schools present override-or-exclusion strategy to close $2M budget gap. Interim Town Manager Joshua Reinke told the jointly convened School, Finance, and Select Boards that a debt exclusion offers the same bottom-line results as an override but expires in 8 to 18 years rather than becoming permanent. Superintendent Michelle McKeon and Finance Director Matthew Violette outlined a budget progression timeline and confirmed the district will develop two spending scenarios for Town Meeting, one with and one without the $2M measure.

A public budget hearing is scheduled for March.
