Light Commissioners approve two-cent power adjustment to offset winter costs.
Light Commissioners · Meeting of February 10, 2026
Mansfield Electric Commission unanimously approves temporary two-cent power adjustment. The Municipal Electric Commission backed the increase effective March 1, 2026, on the recommendation of General Manager Joe Sollecito to offset higher-than-budgeted purchase power costs driven by extreme cold weather and spot market volatility. Joe Pereira, Business and Finance Manager, reported net income of approximately $1.3 million through six months of the fiscal year, though the stabilization fund has declined to $466,000 from $2.6 million.
The Commission also discussed preliminary feasibility of consolidating billing cycles from seven to four per month and heard a presentation on potential artificial intelligence data center opportunities, which would require case-by-case evaluation.
